Our speaker for December 12th will be Margaret Beilharz. She will be giving us a really great presentation about what early valley pioneer Donald McKenzie saw in 1812.
In 1960 Margaret’s family moved to a cabin on the McKenzie River. Fascinated by water, she later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Water Resource Management and worked for the National Forest for 30 years. After she retired, her interest turned to local history. In 2012 she organized the McKenzie River Bicentennial, and wrote “How the McKenzie River was Named”. In 2018 her work on the McKenzie History Highway project resulted in 35 local history displays between Cedar Flat and McKenzie Bridge. She has also collected and shared stories about McKenzie River history at many local events.
